At Least Pencils Isn't Flipping Us The Bird

Unlike other retailers, Pencils will be closed all day for Thanksgiving. Naturally, we have to be at work at 5:30 AM the next day for "Black Friday" and all the insanity that will present. In jest, I asked William, who happens to be African-American, if he was offended by the expression, "Black Friday". "Black Friday, brown Friday, yellow Friday.... I don't give a shit what they call it," was his thoughtful response. I tried to continue the conversation by injecting that the term "Black Friday" seems to target a certain ethnic group and a marketing ploy to entice them to spend money." "If a bunch of homey's want to come into Pencils and buy some piece of shit HP Laptop and get a bunch of other shit they don't need rammed down their throat, what do I care?" he then replied. He seemed to be in a bad mood, probably because Matt told him to be at work Friday at 5AM instead of 5:30.

  1. Honestly, I think it will be worst this black friday for us at Pencils, than all of the other black fridays. Around the area that my Pencils store is located we have a mall and some of the stores are open at 9 or 10PM on Thursday. All of the other store's I know open at 12 midnight. Only the Pencils store seems to be open at 6am for customer's which means the line will be around the corner if the items ran out at the other store's. Pencils employees will probably have to get to the store as early as possible to try to find parking, so they can at least get in the building on time to service customer's. Staples is also calling this black friday - blue friday because of VIBE. I am just glad I don't have to miss dinner to be at work at 9PM so that some greedy retailer can get some sales and hopefully make a profit!

  2. I think that if you work in retail, you can go ahead and cross off Thanksgiving as a holiday or a day off. I guess Christmas day is next.

  4. Who was Pencil's kidding, the sales they had listed as Black Friday "deals" were really nothing more than what they offer in any other week. My friend was like "I got a pack of Pencil's brand DVD-Rs for like 20 bucks" My response was "Umm thats what they normally are on sale for; just a different brand each week". He was disgusted. Thankfully I left Pencils a few months ago, could no longer put up with their crap and the morons working in my department (Easy Wreck).

  5. Stumbled upon your blog a few weeks back after Googling "Fuck you, Pencils," and I'd like to give you a hearty thanks.

I'm a night shift supervisor of 5 years-- I'm in Western Canada. I dodged a lot of the bullshit you and the others speak of for years (evidently), but it was inevitable that it would creep up on me eventually, and now I'm looking for the nearest exit. I hope to Raptor Jesus that I'm out of this shit hole before the new year, or I'll probably end up getting fired for telling a Blue Shirt that they're a fucking idiot, and after being here for 5 years, I sure as fuck don't need that on my record. I may be making my own "Pencils" blog soon, and if I do, I'll make sure to throw it your way so I can appropriately join in on the "liaising." Stay strong, fellow Pencils slaves.
